💻 For the best experience, open this Resume Builder on a laptop or PC — a mobile screen is too small to show all the design options and live preview clearly. It still works on mobile, but editing is much easier on a larger screen.

🌍 Resume Region

Choose the region you're applying in — this adjusts which optional fields, best-practice tips, and Resume Score checks apply, since U.S. and European CV conventions differ.

What is ATS? An Applicant Tracking System (ATS) is software that many companies — in the U.S., Europe, and worldwide — use to automatically scan and filter resumes before a human recruiter ever sees them. Complex layouts, columns, tables, and images can confuse this software and cause a qualified resume to be rejected automatically. Turning on ATS-Friendly Mode formats your resume in a simple, single-column layout that ATS software can read reliably, and downloading the .docx version below (instead of the PDF) gives you real, machine-readable text.

🇺🇸 United States Resume Best Practices

  • Keep it to 1 page (2 pages max for 10+ years of experience)
  • Do not include a photo, date of birth, marital status, gender, religion, or nationality — most U.S. employers discard resumes with this information
  • Use reverse-chronological order — most recent job first
  • Lead bullet points with action verbs and quantify results where possible (e.g. "Increased sales by 20%")
  • List a city/state only — a full home address isn't required
  • Turn on ATS-Friendly Mode before applying through an online job portal

✅ Resume Score & Health Check

Score: —

Colours — 100+ presets or pick any RGB colour

🔤 Typography & Spacing — set the exact font size and spacing you want

📑 Sections — Titles, Order & Visibility

Tick a section to show or hide it, use the arrows to reorder it, and edit the text box to rename its title on your resume (e.g. change "Skills" to "Core Competencies").

Profile Photo — optional, conventions vary by region

⚠️ Most U.S. employers prefer resumes without a photo. Including one can lead some companies to discard your application to avoid discrimination-related liability. Leave this off unless you have a specific reason to include it.

References

Most U.S. resumes simply state "References available upon request" instead of listing contacts — only add real references if the employer specifically asks for them.

European CV — Additional Details (optional, only relevant when applying in Europe)

This section only appears on the CV once you tick "European Details" visible in the Sections panel above. Nationality and date of birth are commonly included on CVs in some European countries (e.g. Germany, France) but are not expected in others (e.g. UK, Ireland, Netherlands) — leave any field blank if it doesn't apply to you.

Skills

Languages

CEFR levels (A1–C2) are widely used and often expected on European CVs. Pick a level, then type the language and press Enter.

Your resume is ready

Use this file to apply on job websites (LinkedIn, Indeed, company career portals, etc.) — it's a real text document that ATS scanning software can read correctly.

⚠️ The PDF is an image of your resume — most ATS software cannot read text from it. Do not upload the PDF to an online job application; use the .docx file above instead.

How to Use Our Free CV/Resume Builder — Step-by-Step Guide

Creating a professional, ATS-friendly resume has never been easier. This guide walks you through every step of using the Vuxera Global CV/Resume Builder — completely free, with no sign-up required.

Before You Start: Your Privacy Comes First

Before we begin, here’s something important you should know:

  • This tool works entirely inside your own browser. Nothing you type is sent to, or saved on, our servers or database.
  • Your resume data is stored only on your own device (in your browser’s local storage), so you can safely close the tab and come back later without losing your progress.
  • We do not collect, view, or have access to any of the personal information you enter — your name, contact details, work history, and everything else stays private to you.
  • For the best experience, we recommend using the builder on a laptop or desktop computer, since the design and preview options are easier to manage on a larger screen. It does work on mobile too, just with a more compact layout.

Step 1: Open the CV/Resume Builder

Navigate to the CV/Resume Builder page on our website. You’ll see two tabs at the top: Resume and Cover Letter. Start with the Resume tab.

Step 2: Choose Your Region

At the top of the builder, select whether you’re building your resume for the United States or Europe. This matters because resume conventions differ:

  • United States: Photos and personal details (date of birth, nationality, marital status, etc.) are not included, since most US employers prefer resumes without this information.
  • Europe: You’ll see an optional “European CV — Additional Details” section (Nationality, Date of Birth, Driving Licence) and optional CEFR language proficiency levels (A1–C2), since conventions vary across European countries.

Choose whichever matches where you’re applying — you can always switch later if needed.

Step 3: Fill in Your Details

Work through each section of the form:

  • Personal Details — name, contact information, and (if relevant to your region) a photo
  • Summary — a short professional overview
  • Experience — your work history, with company names, roles, and achievements
  • Education — your academic background
  • Skills, Languages, Certifications, Projects, Achievements & Awards, References — add whichever sections are relevant to you

You don’t have to fill in every section — use the Section Order & Visibility panel to hide any sections you don’t need, or reorder them to highlight your strongest points first.

Step 4: Customise the Design

Use the design panel to personalise your resume:

  • Choose from 10 professional layouts
  • Pick a colour theme from over 100 curated presets, or use the full colour picker for a custom shade
  • Select from 30+ Google Fonts
  • Adjust typography and spacing — name size, heading size, body text size, line spacing, and page margins — using the sliders provided

As you make changes, the live preview on the right updates instantly, so you always see exactly how your resume will look.

Step 5: Check Your Resume Score

Keep an eye on the Resume Score panel. It gives you a live score out of 100%, along with a Health Check checklist highlighting anything you may want to improve — such as missing sections, weak formatting, or region-specific best practices.

Many employers use Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) — software that scans resumes automatically before a human ever sees them. Complex designs, columns, and images can cause a good resume to be rejected by this software.

Turn on ATS-Friendly Mode to instantly reformat your resume into a clean, single-column, plain layout that ATS software can read reliably. We recommend using this mode when applying through online job portals.

Step 7: Download Your Resume

You have two download options:

  • Word (.docx) — Recommended for online applications. This is a real, text-based document that ATS software can read properly. Always use this format when uploading to job portals.
  • PDF — Best for printing or emailing directly to a person. Note: a PDF is not ideal for ATS systems, as it is not always read reliably by scanning software.

Both downloads happen directly to your own device — again, we never keep a copy.

Step 8: Build Your Cover Letter (Optional)

Switch to the Cover Letter tab to create a matching cover letter. It automatically reuses your name, contact details, colour theme, and font from your resume, so everything looks consistent.

Extra Features Worth Knowing About

  • Undo/Redo — made a change you didn’t mean to? Use the undo button to step back through your edit history.
  • Auto-Save & Named Saved Resumes — your progress saves automatically in your browser, and you can save multiple versions under different names (useful if you’re applying to different types of roles).
  • JSON Export/Import — export your complete resume data as a file you can back up or re-import later, on this or another device.
  • Editable Section Titles — rename any section to suit your industry (for example, change “Skills” to “Core Competencies”).
